We all know how important it is to 'plan, play and practise' (PPP) our aqua moves before including them in a class. Join Jennifer Schembri Portelli (JSP) in her own PPP sessions. Watch the pool deck demonstration and then analyse how JSP creatively and efficiently transfers this to the water.

Just as aqua classes are different, so too are the WETS AquaPacks. Whether training elite athletes, conducting gentle aqua classes for frail participants or running regular mainstream aqua, each needs a plan. The AquaPack is released 4 times a year focusing on a different population group, theme and class format.

 

Aqua UpSkill – improve your aqua instructor technique

There comes a time in every instructor's career when they would benefit from independent feedback about their instructor technique. WETS is committed to keeping the aqua instructor's skill benchmark high and offers WETS VIPs this service.

Send in personal aqua footage to discuss the strengths and weaknesses in your instructor skills. This is NOT an assessment - the service is beneficial to instructors who value continuous improvement.

We provide a checklist (ultimately set by you for your needs) to analyse techniques instructors use to lead effective aqua classes.

1. Contact the office via email, phone or Skype to let us know you would like to UpSkill your aqua technique.

2. WETS will contact you to provide a simple questionnaire regarding your classes and instructor outcomes.

3. Film yourself teaching a component of a class (15- 30mins) and send us the DVD. Alternatively, upload the video to a free video uploading site (for example, YouTube (click here for video tutorial) or Vimeo (click here for video tutorial).

4. WETS will contact you and provide a diagnostic analysis of your routine and instructor technique (up to 30 minutes).

 

Aqua Class Builder - renovating your class design strategies

What a great opportunity – book in and work with one of the friendly WETS AquaTeam to discuss your very own class design. We begin with the end in mind - what do you want from your participants? What's your instructor style? Let us know your aquatic environment.

This is your plan, we just help you build it! Together with the WETS AquaTeam you will design a class with substance; one you and your participants will enjoy.

Aqua Mentoring - a career pathway booster

Jennifer Schembri-Portelli (JSP) is an award winning presenter and motivational speaker with a wealth of experience, knowledge and innovation.

You may have had the pleasure of working with JSP during a WETS Aqua Instructor Course, Aqua Summit, workshops or as a colleague. Her skills and passion, coupled with her mindful presence and feedback, have helped many instructors achieve the next stage in their careers.

Utilise this service in two 30 minute blocks or a one hour consultation via phone, email, face to face or Skype.

Previous students who have received mentoring from JSP include an instructor who, after only one year in the industry, was nominated as YMCA's instructor of the year. Another success story is an instructor who was accepted as a national presenter at FILEX fitness convention thanks to the in depth yet realistic framework set during the mentoring sessions.
